Son of Robert Evan Upton and Louisa Matilda Upton of 'Cora Lynn' South Portland, Victoria 

Previously served in the Naval Reserves, Williamstown, Victoria, for over three years.

30 December 1915 - enlisted at Melbourne with the 24th Battalion with the rank of Private.
