“B” Other Ranks
Ryrie’s Post
Despatch dated 9th September 1915 No.2
Reason:
That on the night of 1st/2nd August No.379
Corporal F. Burton with No.448
Tpr A.H. Muller and No379 Tpr N.H. Bleakly went out to reconnoitre
the Turkish trenches opposite our position. On leaving our trenches
they were met with a heavy fire from the Turks and temporarily retreated.
When the fire had slackened, they again went out and reconnoitred the position to within eight yards of the enemy trenches.
After a short rest it was decided to bring their wounded back in, an arduous and dangerous task.
Partly carrying and partly dragging they brought Tpr Muller back.
On evacuation it was discovered that Tpr Muller was dead.
Bringing in Tpr Muller took some considerable time and greatly
increased the danger of the enterprise.
