"A MILITARY MEDALLIST.
Mrs. H. O'Neill, Glastonbuty, via Gympie, has received from the Base Records Office, Melbourne, the following copy of an extract from the "London Gazette." dated 11th May, 1917:-
"His Majesty the King has been graciously pleased to award the Military Medal to No. 1260, Private Kevin O'Neill, 9th Battalion, for bravery in the field."
Private O'Neill enlisted in November, 1915, and left for the Front in June last year, reaching the Front in the early part of September, 1916. This is the first soldier from the Gladstone district to have this honour conferred on him. The photograph was taken in France, in June of this year, and Private O'Neill is wearing the ribbon of the Military Medal." - from the Queenslander 13 Oct 1917 (trove.nla.gov.au)
