Son of William Henry Bottrill & Mary Anne Bottrill, Wentworth NSW
(December 1916 moved to Berri, SA)

On enlisting Edward was 21yrs 3mths old; single; 5' 4" tall; 130 pounds; fair complexion; grey eyes; brown hair; living at Wentworth with parents, Church of England, worked as a Labourer.

16/1/1915     Enlisted at Wentworth, New South Wales
10/5/1915     Embarked from Port Melbourne onboard HMAT A38 Ulysses
                    as a Private with 6th Infantry Brigade, 22nd Infantry Battalion D Company
19/3/1916     proceeded to join British Expeditionary Forces ex Alexandria
26/3/1916     disembarked into Marseilles, France
16/7/1916     taken on strength of 6th Light Trench Mortar Battery, in the field
20/11/1916    wounded in action by shell,  wound left forearm, evacuated
                     (compound fracture of both bones of left forearm (radius and ulnar)
27/11/1916    Embarked onboard HS Astunios at Havre, France for England
                     admitted to 3rd Auxillary Hospital, Dartford, England
                     - had several operations to remove bone
21/12/1917    returned to Australia onboard A34 Persic
12/2/1918      transhipped to RMS Ormond for Sydney
15/8/1918      discharged
