Brother of Ernest Vial who return to Australia on 5 February 1919 having served with the 20th Battalion

Husband of Clara May Vial  formerly Hayes nee Wallace of  Armidale Street, Abermaine, NSW. Claude and Clara married during 1903c in Newcastle, NSW

Commenced return to Australia on 31 January 1918 aboard HT Argyllshire then transhipped by HT Osterley at Capetown disembarking on 15 April 1918
