AWM Summary

155 Sergeant Herbert Choice Toon of the 16th and later 48th Battalion. He enlisted in Perth on 16 October 1914 and embarked from Melbourne in December of that year. He was taken prisoner on 12 October 1917 at the Ypres Roulers railway during the battle at Passchendaele and spent the remainder of the war in numerous camps in Germany. He returned to Australia on 12 April 1919. In 1937, having changed his name to Toone, he was a member of the Australian Coronation Contingent which went to London for the coronation of George VI.
