Biography

Arthur was a carpenter at Kenmore Hospital in Goulburn NSW where he worked before the war. His name is on the Rocky Hill War Memorial in Goulburn along with 699 other WWI Soldier's names. The monument is limestone with a impressive tower. Goulburn was a recruiting and training section during the War. The monument also has the name of Mary Bartlett (wife of the Archdeacon A. R. Bartlett) who the tower is also dedicated to in thanks for her service to the returned men by hosting Anzac day luncheons and forming the Goulburn Soldiers Club. Mary brought a cottage for the the incapacitated soldiers and would also have 30 (comfort pack) parcels a month sent to lonely soldiers. In 1935 she was awarded the certificate of Merit from the R.S.S.I.L.A., only two of which were awarded each year in Australia. - Catherine Robertson
