Private "Jack" Varty, of E. Coy., 7th Battalion, was killed in action at the Dardanelles. He was 26 years of age and the youngest son of Mrs Varty, of 3 Windsor Street, Footscray. He was among the first to enlist from this district and was a tent mate of Private Arch. Birkill.
