Biography contributed by Val Stevens

James was born in 1886 to parents William and Ellen Irving.  He moved with his family to Moyarra in 1909.

He continued to work on the family farm after returning from France, but could never do any heavy work, so learned the trade of blacksmith.

He never married and worked on the family farm until retiring to Korumburra.
