Son of William and Worthy Barron

Charles Barron was born in Scotland and arrived at Fremantle on “Gothic” in January 1913 aged 20.  He had married at Edinburgh in May 1912 and his wife Maria and daughter Joan followed him to Fremantle in October 1913, they lived at Maylands.  He enlisted in the Australian Army 26 October 1915, service no 3490 , aged 23 years 10 months, gave wife Maria Barron as next of kin, his place of birth as Inverness Scotland.  He was 5 foot 9 inches tall, with fresh complexion, blue eyes and brown hair, Presbyterian, occupation Plumber.  He had served for 3+3/4 years 6th Royal Scots (Terr.) . He left Fremantle on "Borda" 17 Jan 1916, he was in the 51st  Battalion, sent to France, received gunshot wound to head in the field between 14 -16 Aug 1916, died of wounds received in action, 3 Sept at General Hospital Etaples France and buried at Military Cemetery Etaples. The Commonwealth War Cemeteries citation is " Son of William and Worthy Barron; husband of M. Barron, of 158, Ninth Avenue, Maylands, Western Australia. Native of Edinburgh, Scotland."  His name appears on panel 152 of the Commemorative Area of the Australian War Memorial, Canberra A.C.T.   A Memorial notice in "West Australian" 3 Sept 1917 was inserted by "his loving wife and children".  They also placed memoriam notices 1918 - "Saviour in thy gracious keeping We leave our soldier daddy sleeping."

The Sunday Times 24 Sept 1916 page 9S lists him as C. Barron (Maylands) in a Roll of Honour amongst Australian soldiers killed . Charles is also acknowledged on the Scottish National War Memorial's Roll of Honour, within Edinburgh Castle.
