89 years ago today, on the Thursday afternoon of the 2nd August 1934, Private Leo Charles L Nash, 4th Australian Light Horse Regiment (Reg No-3146), farmer and tramway employee from 624 Bourke Street, Moore Park, New South Wales and Price Street, Islington West, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 40. CATHOLIC 2-36. 2.

Born at Narrabri, New South Wales on the 4th September 1893 to Edward A and Annie M Nash of Glen Innes, New South Wales; husband of Muriel Catherine Emily Nash nee Lawler (married 1924, Newcastle, N.S.W., remarried to David John Miller, 1943, Glen Innes, N.S.W., died?), Leo enlisted on the 4th July 1918 with the Australian Remount Unit, Egypt at Sydney, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board SS Port Darwin on the 14th September 1918.
Did not serve in a theatre of war, therefore was not granted Victory Medal.

Nothing located on Trove regarding enlistment, welcome home, etc.

Mr. Nash’s name has been inscribed on the Glen Innes & District Soldiers' Memorial and the Glen Innes Pinkett Roll of Honour.

The tragic circumstances of Leo’s death were reported collapsed and died at home (see links).

I have placed poppies and a 1914-1918 WAR label at Leo’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.

Older brother Augustus Joseph (born 15.9.1889, Narrabri, New South Wales, labourer from Glen Innes, New South Wales, enlisted 4.9.1914, an Original Anzac, 1st Division Motor Transport Company, Reg No-1596, RTA 25.12.1918 (granted Special 1914 Leave), died 17.7.1978, age 88, N.S.W., place unknown, not officially commemorated) also served 1st A.I.F.
