The Minmi Roll of Honour has 79 names inscribed of those who returned home from The Great War.
The 8th name inscribed is Private Matthew Miller Colquhoun.
On the Saturday afternoon of the 23rd October 1943, Private Matthew Miller Colquhoun, 13th Battalion (Reg No-1530 not 1430), miner from Back Creek, Minmi, New South Wales and 51 James Street, Hamilton, N.S.W. (1931) and 76 Bowman Street, Swansea, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Botany Cemetery, N.S.W. (Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park, N.S.W.), age 51 years 10 months.
Matthew had died on the 22nd October 1943 at the Prince of Wales Military Hospital, Randwick, N.S.W. from pulmonary tuberculosis.
Born at West Wallsend, New South Wales on the 2nd December 1891 as Mathew to George, died 2.3.1923, George Street, Mayfield East, N.S.W., age 68, buried at Sandgate Cemetery, N.S.W., PRESBYTERIAN-19SW. 33, from 5 Omara Street, Tighes Hill, N.S.W., formerly of Minmi, N.S.W., and Margaret Colquhoun nee Drummond, died 4.3.1933, 33 Cameron Street, Hamilton, N.S.W., age 78, mother of 7 (5 sons, 2 daughters), sleeping at Sandgate Cemetery, N.S.W., PRESBYTERIAN-19SW. 33, formerly of Minmi, N.S.W.; husband of Agnes Lillian M Colquhoun nee Reid, married 1932, Lambton, N.S.W. as MATHEW M, Agnes died 16.5.1975, Newcastle, N.S.W. as COLQUHUON, age 82, 31 years a widow, sleeping at Sandgate Cemetery, N.S.W., CATHOLIC 1-N Com. 26, from Lot 2, Main Road, Mount Hutton, N.S.W. (1967).
Matthew enlisted on the 4th December 1914, age 23 years, at Liverpool, N.S.W.
Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A49 Seang Choon on the 11th February 1915.
Wounded in action - 20.5.1915 (not stated, Gallipoli), 29.8.1916 (bayonet wound right ankle, mild), 18.9.1918 (GSW left shoulder & left forearm, severe).
Invalided to England 21.9.1918.
Admitted to hospital 22.9.1918.
Commenced return to Australia 20.12.1918.
Matthew arrived home invalided on the 3rd February 1919, being discharged medically unfit on the 13th May 1919.
Received all 3 War Medals.
Service record states Died after Discharge, 22/10/1943.
Officially commemorated - 7/8/1945.

Younger brother Charles Ferguson Colquhoun, born 15.7.1889, Joadja Creek, New South Wales, wheeler from Back Creek, Minmi, New South Wales and 34 Roslyn Avenue, Maryville, N.S.W., enlisted 15.1.1916, age 26 years 6 months, 34th Battalion, Reg No-1086, Private, unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A20 Hororata on the 2nd May 1916, disembarked Plymouth, England 23.6.1916, proceeded O/Seas to France from Folkestone, England 2.11.1916, taken on Strength 19th Battalion, France, 19.11.1916, Reg No-1086A, transferred to 20th Battalion 11.10.1918, commenced return to Australia 1.11.1919, RTA 15th December 1919, discharged 16th December 1919, died 29.7.1928, age 39, resting at Sandgate Cemetery, N.S.W., PRESBYTERIAN-10NW. 5, the 32rd name inscribed on the Minmi Roll of Honour of those who returned home from The Great War.
