Private Charles Ernest Edward Hunt (Service No:6085) enlisted in the AIF in Roma QLD on 21 August 1916 with 11th Depot Battalion, and was attached to 7th Training Battalion on 27 October 1916 when he embarked with his Unit from Brisbane QLD for Plymouth on board HMAT A75 Marathon. Private Hunt transferred to 26th Infantry Battalion on 3 March 1917, and served in France - hospitalised in England on two occasions with Influenza. Private Hunt embarked from England for Melbourne on 15 May 1919 on board HT Ypiringa, and was attached to 26th Infantry Battalion at Discharge in Brisbane on 14 August 1919.
Charles was born in Brisbane QLD in 1897, eldest of two children of John Samuel Hunt (b1869 in London, England) and his first wife Rosamund (Rose) Flora Margaret Jenner (b1868 in Sussex, England). Rose immigrated with her parents in 1883, arriving in Brisbane, QLD on board the Roma, and John immigrated in 1886, arriving in Brisbane, QLD on board the Duke of Buckingham. John and Rose married in Melbourne in 1890 and had moved to Brisbane by 1897. Following Rose's death in 1899, John remarried in Brisbane in 1902 to Susan Walters (b1876 in Brisbane, QLD). John and Susan lived in Brisbane, where their daughter was born, and sons Alfred and Samuel attended Hamilton State School. John worked for QGR as a Stationmaster, living with his family at Saltern via Barcaldine, Marmor via Rockhampton and Port Alma via Fitroy before settling in Rockhampton.
Charles worked in Roma for Queensland Government Railways (QGR) as a Locomotive Fireman before enlisting in the Army in 1915. Following his Discharge, he returned to Roma and work as a Locomotive Firement for QGR. In 1921 in Kilcoy QLD he married Gladys Esther Victoria Thrupp (b1898 in Surat, QLD). Charles and Gladys settled in Roma, where they raised their son and Charles worked as a Locomotive Foreman until his death in 1924. Gladys later remarried.
