Husband of Margaret Elizabeth Vest nee Mills of Johnstone Street, Annandale, NSW. John and Margaret married during 1901c in Balmain North, NSW

Prior to enlisting John had been a member of the Leichhardt Rifle Club.

Commenced return to Australia on 10 January 1918 aboard HT Corinthic disembarking on 1 March 1918 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney aboard HT Port Darwin
