Military Medal

'For bravery and devotion to duty. During a daylight raid on enemy's trenches on BROODSEINDE RIDGE on morning of 8th October the party encountered heavy strong enemy positions with several machine guns. While 'B' Coy was advancing under cover 'A' Coy had to do so across the open. This brought them in full view of the enemy who subjected them to rifle and machine gun fire. Seeing this this N.C.O. took his section forward and engaged the machine gun with rifle fire. By doing this he drew the enemy's fire from 'A' Company upon himself. This enabled 'A' Company to carry out the raid successfully and to withdraw to their own lines. He remained in position and covered his own party's withdrawal. Number of participants in raid - 2 Officers 45 other ranks.'
