William Crellin CLOVER was born in 1892 at Rupanyup, Victoria

His parents were Daniel CLOVER and Maud CRELLIN who married in 1891 in Victoria

His brother Arthur Daniel CLOVER (SN1232) also served in WW1 and returned to Australia in 1916

Tpr Clover enlisted on 26 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Hororata on 27 September 1915. He was later transferred to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment. Died on this date – 23rd June.... William Crellin Clover was born in 1892 at Rupanyup, Victoria. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 26th July, 1915 as a 23 year old, single, Labourer from Drouin, Victoria.

Private Clover embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on HMAT Hororata (A 20) on 27th September, 1915 with the 4th Light Horse Regiment, 9th Reinforcements. His younger brother Arthur Daniel Clover embarked the same day.

4th Light Horse Regiment
The 4th Light Horse Regiment was formed as the divisional cavalry regiment for the 1st Australian Division on 11 August 1914. Belying traditional stereotypes, over 20 per cent of the original regiment were city dwellers from Melbourne. The regiment sailed from Melbourne on 19 October 1914 and disembarked in Egypt on 10 December……

Private Clover embarked from Alexandria on 10th June, 1916 & disembarked at Marseilles, France on 17th June, 1916. He was transferred to 2nd Anzac Mounted Regiment on 7th July, 1916 from 4th Light Horse Regiment.

Trooper Clover was admitted to Field Ambulance on 13th December, 1916 with Tubercle of Lung then transferred to Hospital at Wimereux with chronic bronchitis. He was invalided to England on Hospital Ship & admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital (Kings Heath Section) Birmingham, England on 26th December, 1916 with Bronchitis - severe. The Hospital Admissions form recorded “Cough for 6 months; marked loss of weight; night sweats; dullness R Apex. Increased V.R. No T.B. found.”

Trooper Clover was transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, Middlesex on 23rd May, 1917 for return to Australia. “T.B. present.” A Medical Report was completed on 28th May, 1917 & the Medical Board agreed that Trooper Clover was permanently unfit for General & Home Service.

Trooper William Crellin Clover was reported as dangerously ill with Tuberculosis on 28th May, 1917. He died at 9 am on 23rd June, 1917 at 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield Park, Harefield, Middlesex, England from Tuberculosis of Lungs.
Trooper William Crellin Clover was buried in St. Mary the Virgin Churchyard, Harefield, Middlesex, England where 112 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.

[Trooper Clover's younger brother - Arthur Daniel Clover was returned to Australia on 5th July, 1916 to be medically discharged.]
