David Beacom was the son of John Beacom, who was one the old pioneers of Kangaroo Valley in NSW. John died in 1900 when David was only 6 years of age. David’s mother Elizabeth had five children at the time, and she remarried some four years later. David’s older brother 874 Pte. Joseph Archdall Beacom 15th Battalion AIF was killed in action five days after David, also at Pozieres, aged 32.
At the time of his death David owned a farm at Budgong NSW, inherited from his father, being approximately 90 acres valued at 215 pounds.
