Son of Samuel Uren and Jane Ann Uren nee Donald of Newington Road, Stawell, Victoria. Brother of Frank Gordon Uren who returned to Australia on 4 February 1920 having served with the 14th Battalion and later held as a Prisoner of War in Germany.
5 February 1915 - enlisted at Liverpool, NSW, with the 18th Battalion and with the rank of Private.
23 August 1915 - promoted to Sergeant
27 August 1915 wounded in action. Invalided to England on 30 August 1915 aboard HS Hunts Green with wound to the thigh
8 May 1916 - commenced return to Australia aboard HT Thermistocles disembarking on 19 June 1916 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney
Medals: 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal
21 September 1916 - discharged at the 2nd Military District as medically unfit due to wounding
