Pte Eric Lang

The previous posts re "Other ANZAC Cottages" have highlighted projects in the metro area, but, as always, the country communities embraced the idea of providing homes for returned disabled soldiers and/or families who had lost their fathers, sons, husbands and brothers.

In Donnybrook, apple country, the community came together to build homes for at least two such cases:
Donnybrook resident, Eric Lang, the only son of widow, Mrs Maud Lang sadly did not return from his war service , leaving his mother without her breadwinner and helper. Eric served in the 48th Battalion and was killed in action on 08 August 1916 Age 22. Mr James Egan, a popular member of the community lead the project which involved many community members, the names of whom are still represented in the current Donnybrook community.
