Personal Stories
Henry Sheriff's death
Private Robert Haines, a stretcher bearer in the 50th Battalion, recorded in his diary on 2 February 1917 that he brought "back Sheriff who was killed on Wiring Party".
At the time the 50th Battalion was at Perth Camp in Bernafay Wood.
Haines says that he attended the burial ceremony the next day, and on 4 February he records going to a neighbouring camp to "find a cross for Sheriff's grave".
