"THE LATE PRIVATE F. J. McCARTIN.
Private F. J. (Len) McCartin, who was killed in action in France on December 8, left Adelaide on July 13, 1916, with reinforcements to the 5th Pioneers. He was well liked, and his manliness and happy disposition won for him many sincere friends, who greatly regret his death. His brother is now serving with the Artillery in France." - from the Adelaide Chronicle 13 Jan 1917 (nla.gov.au)
