Biography contributed by Carmel McMullen

Son of John William Ryan and Eliza Ann nee Shaw of Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia.

He was a Stretcher bearer in 15th Bn, A Coy

He had been carrying wounded in all day and volunteered to go out and resue a wounded officer even though it was not his turn to go. When approaching the line near where the officer lay he was hit and killed instantly. (Informant Pte G Lynch 7255 A Coy 15 Bn)
