Captain George Harry Bryant’s service to England (9th Lancers) and to Australia (1st Machine Gun Squadron) could only be said to be outstanding, honourable and totally dedicated.
Captain George Harry Bryant’s Australian service started in March 1915 and continued to October 1919. It involved Captain Bryant being transferred to many Regiments and Squadrons, 9th Light Horse, 11th Light Horse, 3rd Light Horse, No. 4 Australian Machine Gun Squadron, No.1 Australian Gun Squadron, Officer in Charge of all Australian Machine Gun Squadrons in he field of WWI and Officer in Charge of the 4th, 5th, and 6th Military Districts and many, many more.
Captain Bryant’s service records show he was never injured or sick in the time he was in the service. An incredible feat!
The following Mention in Despatches read:
3rd Light Horse, Captain George Harry Bryant
During recent operations, September – October 1918 this officer saw that his forward guns kept well up with the advanced guard. This was particularly noticeable during the fighting among the olive groves and vineyards north of Damascus on the 1st of October when he personally pushed his gun to within 50 yards of the enemy rearguard, and that day’s fighting resulted in the capture of 744 prisoners, 3 mountain guns and 80 machine guns.

Captain George Harry Bryant had a soldiers settlers farm west of Kalangadoo and passed away on the 3rd of February 1943 at the age of 61 years.
