Lieutenant Trout embarked from England for Melbourne on 27 April 1919 on board HT Runic, and was attached to the Corps Cyclist Battalion at Termination of Appointment on 20 September 1919 (Transferred to Retired List on 13 January 1921). In WWII, Lietenant Trout served in the ACMF with Area Staff (Service No:Q185111) from 26 January 1940 to 5 May 1944.
Leslie was born in Brisbane QLD in 1890, ninth of twelve children of Richard Taylor Trout (b1851 in Devon, England) and Sophie Anne Newman (b1854 in Hertfordshire, England). Richard immigrated in 1855, arriving in Brisbane QLD with his parents and siblings on board the Cambodie, and Sophie immigrated in 1862, arriving in Brisbane, QLD on board the Jessie Munn. Richard worked for the Government Printing Office and then as a Baker before heading off for the Palmer Goldfields in the Gympie Region, where he was a Miner. Returning to Brisbane, Richard was a Butcher in 1872 when he and Sophie married in Brisbane, where they settled and raised their family. Richard was a Master Butcher, establishing R Trout & Sons, and served as a Member and Chair of the Ashgrove State School Committee, as a member of the QLD Ambulance Transport Brigade (QATB) Committee and the Young Mens' Christian Association (YMCA) Committee. He was the MLA for Enoggera from 1911 to 1915.
Leslie started work in Brisbane as a Clerk, and in 1916 when he enlisted in the AIF was a Grazier at Calvert Plains, Cotherstone via St Lawrence. In 1916 he married Edna Keid (b1891 in Brisbane, QLD), and following his Discharge from the Army, he and Enid lived at Calvert Plains before settling at Greenoaks in Mitchell, where they raised their family and Leslie was a Grazier. By the late 1930's Leslie and Enid had moved to Brisbane, where Leslie was a Merchant (Supplier of Fancy Timber). Enid died in 1969, and Leslie then moved to Gladstone, where he died in 1981.
