Oscar Dinely MURPHINE was born in Bombay in India in 1894

His parents were Alfred Robert MURPHINE and Sarah Ellen BUCKLEY who were both from England

He had previously served as a Signaller in the Shanghai Volunteer Corps before he enlisted in Liverpool NSW on 8th June, 1915 to serve in WW1

He embarked with the 18th Battalion, 4th Reinforcements (D Company) on 30th September, 1915 on the HMAT Argyllshire

Oscar was Killed in Action on 22nd May, 1916 in France and is buried in the Brewery Orchard Cemetery in France

Inscription on his headstone reads "HIS DUTY DONE"

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial & he was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal & the Victory Medal

His nephew Oscar Douglas MURPHINE (SN32845) served in the RAAF in WW2 and died in 1944

another nephew Robert Dinely MURPHINE (SN205912) also served in the RAAF in WW2 and was discharged in 1947
