Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
Charles was the son of Annie Eliza Game, of Dunolly, Victoria. His father, Thomas Game, had passed away from blood poisoning during 1903, leaving a family of 11 children. Charles was only 10 years of age at the time.
Charles’s older brother, 3645 Sergeant Edward Arthur Game 7th Battalion AIF, had died of wounds inflicted at Pozieres, France, on 22 August 1916, aged 32.
During May 1917, The Ballarat Courier stated “Mrs. A Game, of Dunolly, has been notified by the Defence Department that her youngest son Sig Charles Henry Game, died of wounds in France on 9th April. He sailed from Australia in March, 1916 and entered upon active service in France last June. Prior to enlisting the deceased resided in Queensland for some time, where he was well known in athletic circles. He won a brigade boxing championship in France last Boxing Day. This is the second son to make the supreme sacrifice, being a brother to the late Sgt E. A. Game, the popular footballer of the South Ballarat Club, who died of wounds received in France on 22nd August, 1916.”
The Inglewood Advertiser added, "Charlie” is the second of Mrs. Game's sons who has given his life for country, home, and Empire in this great war. He was a fine, stalwart, gallant young man, popular and held in high regard by all who knew him, and the news of his death will cause a shock to the entire community, and cast a gloom over the town, and the deepest sympathy will be extended towards the mother and family who have made such great sacrifices.”
