Born in Gurteen, County Limerick, Ireland Jeremiah Dillon emigrated to Western Australia in August 1911. His brother Edward Dillon joined him about 9 months later. They both enlisted in the AIF during August 1915, and initially left Australia with the 28th Battalion. Both transferred to the 51st Battalion in Egypt.
At Pozieres on 15 August 1916 both were killed in action, an eyewitness stated that ‘Edward was wounded by a shrapnel bullet immediately after climbing out of his trench and his brother Jeremiah went out to bring him in, when a shell exploded and killed both of them’.
Their parents in Ireland were awarded a small pension.
