James Frederick Davis

JAMES FREDERICK DAVIS (1883-1942) born at Tooma, son of Thomas and Maria Davis nee Griffiths. Jim enlisted to serve in WW1 on September 16th, 1914 as Driver 3146 1st Brigade Reinforcements, 1st Battery Field Artillery Brigade, after previously being a member of the Tumbarumba Rifle Club. Initial training was undertaken at Roseberry Park Camp where his brother Albert was also training. His division was embarked at Newcastle on HMAT Barambah A37 on December 21st, 1914. He served at Hena, Cairo, Abbasia, Gallipoli Peninsula, Suez, Egypt. He was treated for wounds in March 1915 in the army hospital in Egypt and was sent home on board the Hospital Ship Ulyssus from Suez on December 27th. He received his discharge on December 27th, 1915 In Melbourne, Invalided out of Service. He was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
He received a Soldiers Settlement Block on Jingellic, the special lease being granted on August 8th, 1916. [DAVIS of GOUNYAN - ROLL OF HONOUR - BM Pittman]
