Son of Thirza and the late Edward John CRAWFORD, Garner's Avenue, Marrickville, NSW
Alfred enlisted under the alias of James Alfred WARD and saw service in Egypt and Gallipoli where he was wounded in May 1915. Returning to duty in August 1915, promted to Sergeant he proceeded to France and was wounded once again at Pozieres in August 1916. Invalided to Wandsworth Hospital in London, he was then apointed duty hospital guard at Bulford Hospital, England
