Son of Andrew and Esther Johnstone of 6 Albert Street, Paddington, NSW. Esther later moved to 65 London Street, Enmore, NSW. In a letter dated December 1920 Esther stated that she had not seen her husband for several years as he was a heavy drinker and wandered a great deal
