Harold Edward Ling
Harold (Harley) was the eldest child of Henry and Fanny Ling. Their first four children had died at birth or in infancy. He was born in Bathurst NSW. When he was young boy his father got a job at the newly opened Manly Gas Works at Little Manly Beach.
Sadly his father died from injuries received in a workplace accident. This meant that his mother alone raised their 7 children.
Harold was working as a driver for a brewery in Tamworth and enlisted from that region.
He suffered a head injury on the Western Front and he then was transported to a military hospital in England. He died from this injury months later.
My grandmother his sister always said it was a blessing. I now know why it was a blessing. His death meant that he no longer had to suffer from this horrendous injury.
"Less we Forget" War is no solution,
