Cecil was the fourth son of Henry Sydney and Harriet Francis of Adelaide. He married Edith Alice Wright on the 25 August 1911 at their home in Philip Street North Brokent Hill N.S.W.
They had four sons, Cecil Augustus JR, Leonard Gilbert, Sydney Clarence and Frederic Lawrence Lancelot Francis.
