2nd Corporal / Private (Sapper) James Clement Power as per NAA military record and family notes.
James Clement Power was born in March 1891 in Nyngan, New South Wales. Before the war, he worked as a Railway Fireman, operating steam boilers on locomotives in the copper mining areas near Nyngan. At the age of 24, James enlisted in October 1915.
James served as a 2nd Corporal with the 9th Field Ambulance Corps. Initially, he was stationed at a second-line field hospital in Liverpool, England, for 12 months. He later served on the front lines near Rouen, France, where he experienced a near-miss from an exploding shell that impacted his hearing in later life. He was demoted to Private (Sapper) upon transfer to the 60th Australian Railway Ordnance Depot in 1918.
While serving, James contracted tuberculosis - it's unclear if this was related to his demotion and transfer -and was hospitalized twice. Due to his illness, he was repatriated to Australia in early 1919, shortly before the end of the war.
For his service, James was awarded the following medals:

• Victory Medal
