| 17 Apr 1917: | Honoured Military Medal, Citation: During and subsequent to the attack on Lagnicourt on the morning 26th March 1917 this N.C.O. worked most energetically and with the utmost coolness laying and repairing lines through heavy barrage. Subsequent to the attack he remained at the point where shell fire was heaviest, repairing lines as soon as they were cut. He worked without ceasing until the Battalion was relieved and it was almost entirely due to his efforts that communication was maintained between Battalion Headquarters and the front line. Son of George Holmes De Vis and Adelaide (Ada) De Vis nee Goodwin of Davis Street, Charters Towers, QLD.
Brother of Frederick Selwyn De Vis who returned to Australia on 26 August 1919 having served with the 49th Battalion; Herbert Walter De Vis who returned to Australia on 13 February 1918 having served with the 49th Battalion and Leslie Holmes De Vis who was killed in action on 18 October 1917 while serving with the 42nd Battalion and has no known grave. His name appears on Menin Gate, Ypres, Panel 27
Commenced return to Australia on 4 July 1919 HT Norman disembarking on 20 August 1919 at Sydney then by rail to Brisbane.
