Biography

"Private T. W. Chalklen Killed In Action.

Yet another name must be added to Port Augusta's list of heroes, late this (Friday) afternoon Mrs. Chalklen received a cable message, informing her that her son, Private Thomas William Chalklen, aged 20, had been killed in action in France. Private Chalklen was a native of Port Augusta, and prior to enlisting was employed by Messrs. Pybus & Co. and B. R. Brown. He enlisted about a year and nine months ago, and before going to France saw fighting at Gallipoli. Our sympathy goes out to the bereaved family." - from the Port Augusta Transcontinental 08 Sep 1916 (nla.gov.au)
