Son of William Henry Upton and Ada Jane Upton nee Clarke of Bulli, NSW

9 November 1915 - enlisted at Sydney, NSW, with the 1st Field Artillery Brigade and with the rank of Gunner.

19 March 1916 - promoted to Driver

22 July 1917 - transferred to the 5th Field Artillery Brigade in France.

12 October 1918 - tranferred to the 2ns Divisional Ammunition Column

Commenced return to Australia on 15 May 1919 aboard HT Ypringa disembarking on 6 July 1919

Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal

29 August 1919 - discharged at the 2nd Military District
