Will was the eldest of eleven children of Francis (Frank) Goodwill (born 1852 in Yorkshire, England) and Ellen Crole (born 1862 in Melbourne, Victoria). Frank - a Farmer - and Ellen married in 1882 at Longwarry in Victoria and raised their family in the Gippsland Region. Three of their sons served in WWI - Wiil, Arthur and Albert.
Will was a Farm Labourer at Nilma in Warragul, Victoria when he enlsited in the AIF in 1916. Brothers - James (Service No:5698) and Albert (Service No:5023) also enlisted in 1916. Will served as a Private (Service No:2119) with the 2nd Pioneer Battalion A Coy and was WIA at Boulogne in France in 1917.
Discharged in January 1918, Will returned to the Gippsland Region and worked as a Farm Labourer at Nilma, then he was a Rabbit Trapper at Mirboo and Turton's Creek in the Gippsland until his death in 1957.
