Harry Thomas was married in 1911 and his wife died in 1912 possibly due to child birth complications. He enlisted as widower with an infant daughter. He served at Gallipoli and was twice evacuated sick. He was a very early casualty of the Australians on the Western Front, being killed by shellfire on 4 June 1916. He left a will to his mother, who was caring for his daughter, and the daughter was also awarded a pension of one pound per week.
Brothers Pte. Herbert William Thomas, 4th Machine Gun Company, was killed in action at Bullecourt 11 April 1917 and Lieutenant Charles Edward Thomas MID, 5th Battalion, returned to Australia in 1918.
