Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Colin was the third of five children of Stephen Dickson Jnr (born 1855 in Alexandria, NSW) and Mary Ann Watson (born 1856 in Balmain, NSW). Stephen was a Lighterman in 1878 when he married Mary Ann in Balmain, Sydney, NSW. They settled in Balmain, and Stephen was a Steamboat Proprietor through the early 1900s, and in later life worked as a Clerk.

In 1892 Colin's arm was broken when a poorly maintained staircase at school caused him to fall and break his arm - his father sued the Minister for Education (Evening News, Sydney NSW: Saturday 29 October 1892; p6).

Colin worked for NSW Governemt Railways as a Wagon (Coach) Builder and in 1910 he married Ada Martha Roberts (born 1885 in Balmain, Sydney, NSW). In February 1916 Colin enlisted in the AIF, serving as a Wheeler, Driver and Private (Service No:10619) with 24th Coy Army Servie Corps. He was Discharged in February 1919. Brothers-in-Law William Owen Roberts (Sergeant, Service No:167), David Thomas Roberts (Farrier, Lance Corporal, Service No:893) and George Henry Roberts (Sapper, Corporal, Service No:17515) also served in WWI.

Returning from WWI, Colin resumed work with the NSWGR as a Coach Builder and he Ada moved to Eastwood in Parramatta. Following Colin's death in 1954, Ada moved to the USA where she died in Texas in 1975.
