Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

On 28 July 1917, 2nd Lt. Lindsay Morrison was killed when his Maurice Farman Shorthorn aircraft crashed from a height of about 25 feet at Netheravon in England. It was his second solo flight and the accident was found to be caused by Morrison trying to turn to the left when he had his right wing down. This caused a side-slip into the ground about half a mile from take off. Lindsay was a 22 year old farmer from Bairnsdale when he enlisted. He had been educated at Melbourne Grammar School 1910-1911, and was a member of the Melbourne Cricket Club. He enlisted in the artillery of the 2nd Australian Division, and served as a Sergeant in France before transferring to the RFC. He is buried in the Figheldean St Michaels Churchyard. Figheldean is a small, peaceful village nestled in the Avon valley Wiltshire, England. Lindsay Morrison’s name was added to the Commemorative Roll in August 2019.
