War Service/Promotions: After arrival in Egypt, embarked on Corsican, from Alexandria on 28 May 1916, for Plymouth, Devon, England. Reverts to rank of Sergeant at his own request on 9 July 1916. On 23 December 1916 Taken on Strength from 2nd Reinforcements, 2nd Pioneer Battalion. Proceeding overseas to France per Princess Victoria, from Folkstone, England, 4 December 1916. Reverts to rank at 2nd Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, France, on 5 December 1916. To be A/Sergeant from 8 December 1916. Marched out to unit on 15 December 1916, Taken on Strength in the Field on 23 December 1916. To be Corporal, In the Field from 5 May 1917, then Sergeant from 21 May 1917, then Temporary Company Sergeant Major from 22 May 1917. Reverts to Private on March out from Etaples on 15 December 1917 for leave. Rejoined from leave on 2 January 1918. To be 2nd Lieutenant 15 January 1918, France. Promoted Lieutenant, France 26 April 1918. On 9 July 1918 admitted to 5th Casualty Clearing Station with influenza. On 17 July 1918 transferred from 5th to 20th Casualty Clearing Station Discharged to duty 24 July 1918 and rejoined the 2nd Pioneer Battalion the next day. Admitted sick to hospital, on 10 August 1918 and placed on seconded list, invalided sick. On leave in Paris, France at time. Admitted 8th Canadian General Hospital, St Cloud, France, on 13 September 1918, with diptheria, then on the 17 September 1918 to the 39th General Hospital, Le Havre, France. Rejoined unit from hospital on 30 November 1918. On 4 January 1919 to Aust. Corps School. Marched out to England on 11 April 1919, before sailing for Australia.
Fate: Returned to Australia per HT Rio Negro, 29 May 1919, disembarking 22 July 1919. He married Doris Elma Neal, 21 May 1926, Church of England, Lakes Entrance, Vic.
Place of Death: 30 October 1954, in a Private Hospital, Bentleigh, Vic.
