Biography contributed by Lenore Hyde

Henry Arthur Fleischmann was born 14 days after the death of his father, Henry Fleischmann on 13 February, 1887. His mother, Harriet had married Henry Fleischmann on 17 October, 1883 following the death of her first husband, Alfred Doorey who was killed in an accident at his sawmill at Mount Mistake in 1881. Henry Fleischmann was working at the sawmill at the time and stayed on to help Harriet run the successful business. Henry Arthur had a sister Harriet Mary 2 years older than him and a half sister, Edith Doorey who was 9 years older. The Mount Mistake/Thornton area of the Lockyer Valley is situated at the head of Laidley Creek and is rich farming and timber country. Henry Arthur attended Thornton State School and then helped support his mother and sisters by farming after his mother sold the sawmill. Henry Arthur's father, Henry was the son of early German immigrants who settled in Ipswich, Qld and established a successful business and were highly respected in the community.
