His older brother 57 Lance Corporal Alfred Ernest Tarrant 12th Battalion AIF was killed in action at Shrapnel Gully, Gallipoli, 11 November 1915, aged 21.

They were the sons of Alfred and Caroline Tarrant, of Lefroy, Tasmania.
