Milton Ilett was one of two sons of Thomas and Janet Ilett, of Warrion, Victoria, who served with the AIF during WW1.
Milton’s older brother 1077 Pte. Reginald Neil Ilett also of the 22nd Battalion was awarded a Military Medal in 1917 for conspicuous gallantry as a stretcher bearer. Two cousins named Ilett also died as a result of WW1, both residing at Warrion, Victoria. One died at Gallipoli, and one died of illness during 1921.
Milton Ilett enlisted with the 59th Battalion and joined his unit in France during January 1917. He was wounded in the left shoulder on 24 March 1917. He was evacuated to England for treatment and when he was sent back to France a few months later, he was transferred to the 22nd Battalion. He was killed in action on 17 September 1917, in unknown circumstances, and has no known grave.
