Albert was born in Ayr on 19 Dec 1890, son of Edith Humphries.

Private Humphries enlisted in Townsville on 14 Mar 1917 and embarked from Melbourne per HMAT A71 “Nestor” on 21 Nov 1917. He served on the Western Front with the 9th Battalion and 12th Machine Gun Company. He was Killed in Action on 21 Jul 1918 near Villers-Bretonneux, France. He has no known grave. His name appears on the Australian National Memorial in Villers-Bretonneux, France, and on Panel 56 at the Australian War Memorial.  He was a motor driver.
