Ernest Stanley Rowley followed his older brother 4303 Pte Cornelius William Rowley (/explore/people/338112) into active service abroad during WW1.

He was aged only 16 years at the time.

He was originally a member of the 57th Infantry Battalion, but had been transferred to the 59th Infantry Battalion before being killed in action near Bellicourt on the 1st October 1918.

His brother had also been killed in action the previous year, on 11th April 1917 at Bullecourt, France.
