The 57th Battalion were holding the front line at Beaumetz les Cambrai on 24 March 1917 when two large German raiding parties attacked the Australian lines.

The raids were eventually repulsed at a cost to the 57th Battalion of eight OR's killed and two officers and 25 OR's wounded.
