Son of David Harrison Unwin and Ellen Unwin of Palmer Island, NSW.
12 February 1916 - enlisted at Lismore, NSW with the 4th Battalion and with the rank of Private.
17 December 1916 - transferred to the 1st Machine Gun Company from 4th Battalion.
4 November 1917 - wounded. Wound to the left forearm. Embarked HS St. Andrew for England on 10 November 1917.
Commenced return to Australia on 15 January 1919 aboard HT City of Exeter disembarking 6 March 1919
Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal
13 April 1919 - Discharged at the 2nd Military District as medically unfit.
