Son of George Vickery and Mary Ann Vickery of March Hill, Humerton, London, England. Brother of Frederick Charles Vickery who was discharged in England on 9 July 1919 having served with the 5th Machine Gun Battalion.

Commenced return to Australia on 6 October 1919 aboard HT Pakeha disembarking on 24 November 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney
