Albert Higgins was only 19 years of age when his elder brother William Higgins died at the age of 27 at Gallipoli, on the 9th August 1915. Albert enlisted and was mortally wounded by shrapnel to the groin on 8 August 1918. He died of wounds, the next day, three years to the day after his older brother, on the 9 August 1918, aged 22.
Another brother, 4794 Corporal John Thomas Higgins, 53rd Battalion, returned to Australia in 1919.
They were the sons of John Francis and Alica Higgins, of Coolah, New South Wales.
